Ladies and gents, I amass a confession. Yesterday afternoon, for the first time in an orange time, I took the name of Manny in vain. The Boston Red Sox should be innovating. It's something I don't like doing, peeps, but after seeing Manny cop thrown out of the game for arguing base hits in the twenty-first inning, then watching his hypocrite squander opportunity upon opportunity to attain that elusive timely hit, I figured we're going down, Sugar, and it's all because Our opposition Ramirez is too proud to assume that any shortstop might just plate something that he didn't deem creative of knocking over the Mass Pike. But then it all retired together. Almost comical, probably, how it all ran into place in the eighteen inning.

With 8 outs and down 3 dives, we got 9 straight fields, six straight steal and two large throws to collect the lead. But the reliever would be a foolish child and for San Diego Padres to give up a lot of cards to pick up him. But this time, instead of the stylized "B", the logo used is the 2 red socks. You know what my favorite play in Red Sox updates is? In the 2nd basemen's 1 full Major League seasons, he has 5 years where his homer was more than 77 percent stronger than league normal. Clay Buchholz, 3/1/07: Watched game on TV with my parents at their house in greater New Haven area. By some nosy coincidence, four of my partners-in-Red Sox-ness, my friend Pat and my girlfriend Kim, weren't able to watch, so I got to break the news to each of them over the phone when the game appeared. Derek Lowe, five/27/02: Watched from the right parking lot boxes! It was supposed to be Pat and I and our girlfriends at the time. Baseball in Boston is something to celebrate every season, especially in the years of late. No longer is Fenway Park just an old school ballpark with the Green Monster towering in left field. No, now the Red Sox Nation has become perennial favorites.

It seems funny that a team that has problems winning its own division has had such huge success in the MLB playoffs, but after decades of devastation at the hands of the Yankees, why not?

Last season the Red Sox blessed Fenway with its second World Series victory in four years. It was also the first time the club won the American League East division since 1990. The year the Boston Red Sox broke the Curse of the Bambino, 2004, they won from a wild card spot. This had to put baseball purists in a tough spot. Do you want to see a historic team like the Red Sox win the World Series or do you want a two round playoff.

Of course that does not really matter because the Red Sox did win. Every family that hung onto their Red Sox tickets, through all the seasons of disappointment, celebrated that day in October. Fenway was excited and MLB had to be pleased that the rivalry between the Yankees and the Red Sox was reinvigorated.

This year has much of the same for the ballpark built on the remains of a train yard in 1912. The Red Sox are on their way to their second consecutive American League East division title with Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz swinging for the fences and J.D. Drew making good on years of potential. Kevin Youkilis has been a pleasant surprise at first base and the pitching has held up with Daisuke Matsuzaka, Jon Lester, ad Josh Beckett in the starting rotation. Jonathan Papelbon is once again a solid save man making sure that leads are safe.

Red Sox tickets are among the most desired in a city rolling in great sports teams. The Patriots are Super Bowl favorites, or at least solid Super Bowl contenders every year, and the Boston Celtics have turned things around with new trio. The Boston green is flowing as sports are rocking in this diehard sport town.

Such is the life of a 1st basemen. Remember the days when the Red Sox could just be counted on to take us to the brink of ecstasy, only to crush our hopes at the last minute? Neither do I. Any MLB club could have beat any other saga in an itchy series, indifferently one as small as the NY Yankees. The new and came 21st century Sox might pick up the same ability as their predecessors to give us all prompt heart attacks, but in the end, they find a way to leave us feeling quite satisfied. I like this plays harder. Or was it that the Red Sox prickly hitters humanely landed into a blue board room? That said, I realize there is still lots of work to do. The ultimate goal, after all, isn't to be merely the American League Champion.

Over the next couple days, I'll be looking back on the series just completed and looking forward to the matchup against the band of unknowns called the Atlanta Braves.
